Chapter 6
Weeds, grass, plants jumped to life.
- Things started to get better after the flood
Peasants worked with renewed vigor, clearing dead branches from their plots and rebuilding homes. Soon venders dotted the road again
- Rebuilding lives.
Desiree felt no joy in the awakening life around her.
- No longer cares, all she can think about is Daniel.
Mama Euralie regarded her with suspicion. And it hovered over Desiree like a weight, depressing her, shackling her to the village.
- Euralie clearly does not want Desiree to leave, but Des does not want to stay. She feels as if she is being forced to stay.
Gabriel Beauxhomme fell in love with a peasant girl and she had a child- A boy. Then came our great war. Father and son fought on opposite sides. Son fought for Revolution, Father fought for France and Napoleon. Father killing son.
- Father and son had different beliefs and therefore took it out on one another to the point where the son took over his father's palace and cast out anyone loyal to his father.
- Father cursed son
History has cast our fate in stone. - Monsieur Bienconnu.
- Telling Ti Moune that there is no way Daniel can love her based on what happened in the past. There is no way
- Ti Moune is not happy about this, does not want to listen to him. Very immature and basis.
The road is hard for men and mules. It can be death for a little girl- TonTon
- Warns Ti Moune about the journey. Ti Moune does not want to listen
- Pulls away from his affection fast, wanting to leave before Mama came home
I have no fear- Ti Moune
- I found this interesting because it's so not true. She fears many things
TonTon give me your blessings to leave and I'll be gone- Ti Moune
- I find it interesting that she asks him for his blessing but not her Mama.

Chapter 7
She kept her mind on the old woman's hands. She had to tear away the instant it loosened.
- Trying to escape from Mama as quickly as possible so she can leave
To stay? To risk her love, and perhaps Daniels life, on a whim of the gods?- Ti Moune
- I found this interesting because now she's doubting herself a bit.
But young strength is no match for old determination. Mama Euralie recaptured Desiree’s hand and pulled her along.
- TRUE!!
But the old woman feared no shadow, she feared losing Ti Moune
- Mama is more afraid of losing her daughter (her support rock) than creepy shadows.
Agwe, your child has come
- They were calling out to Agwe- God of water
He Turned and smiles at her. Ti Moune screamed.
- She was terrified of Papa Gi.
Doubts arose. What if, on that stormy night, Agwe and Erzulie had not heard her plea?
- Really starting to doubt herself.
My Daughter… petite enfant whom i abandoned on that hill these years...Her mother
- Ti Mounes Mother talked to Ti Moune through a man's body
I do not hold you to the vow you made on that stressful night. - Erzulie
- I don't think she fully agrees with Ti Moune but she doesn't blame her for the way she reacted to death.
You are already responsible for her mother's death! Erzulie
- Agwe was the reason Ti Mounes mother died.
It's you who caused Asaka pain, Agwe, Erzulie said. It's your rage that destroys her. It's your rage that erodes her power as you let this slip land bit by bit into the sea
- Agwe mis treats other gods
Agwe you have gone mad Asaka was your lover your sister and your friend!
- Asaka was most likely his lover
But I shall not have my power eroded bit by bit, because of the weakness of lesser gods.
- He thinks he is above all over gods.
But with a sudden, wicked smile, the lips of the toothless mouth parted. Erzulie, Agwe said, sweet seductive. He snaked up to her so that they study hip touching hip. What we need is a grant romance that is all that can save us.
- Agwe is just as bad if not worse than papa Gi.
I came to make certain that those given in trust be kept in trust the evil demon said
- Jerk
Desiree felt his hot breath fan her cheek. She screamed, smashed her hand away from mama Euralie, and ran.
- She got scared of Papa Gi.

Chapter 8
Hunted, hunted, Desiree slipped from shadow to shadow, putting distance between herself and those who loved her, her home, her brook, her past.
- She gave up everything-selfish
The peasant girl walked on for miles. At midday exhausted she searched for and found a large tree, and curled but need that sheltering branches.
- Right where she started from!
The animals were her friends. They kept a respectful distance as she did with them but in times of danger, or with the approach of evil, they were sure to warn her.
- Almost as if a disney movie lol
Agwe, tall, beautiful, his lofty head of the richest blue green seaweed decorated and gold shredded back and forth as he had in the houngfor, his wicked eyes a blazing blue.
- Handsome seductive man
Asaka sat so game. Looking drab in ragged and a brown dress.
- Made her seem less of a god and more of a peasant
Desiree had already traveled one night in a part of one day.
- Determination
He's very ill. He needs me, Desiree answered.
- Still thinks daniel is ill. Vert Bias
They looked first at Desiree's dick, uncombed hair and her ragged dress, then stretch out there next to pier down at the pageant girls feet. They laughed. Their laughter travel down the road from vendor to vendor so that at one moment laughter followed her, and soon the laughter preceded her.
- Everyone made fun of her, treated her like a joke.
Desiree kept on walking. The laughter of the vendors confused and shamed her but the road was faster than the woods and of what importance was their laughter when compared with her dear Daniel lying your death at the castle.
- She was hurt, confused even, but determined to keep going.
Desiree felt gloom descending. Fear and determination had brought her through these first two nights and days. How was it she still had so far to go?
- Did not think it would take so long (said she had no fear before) !!!
Her aching stomach brought tears to her eyes.
Ti Moune give up easy die easy oui
- Kind words from villager
With patients we have learned to examine the bowels of a louse. I have much to learn about patients mama Desiree replied
Desiree thanked the woman and then went into the forest found a soft spot beneath the tree and ate all the food the woman had given her it didn't concern her that she might be hungry again.
- NOT SMART.. Shows her immaturity
The kindness of the woman had for stored her faith.
- Good, help from others

Chapter 9
When she woke the sun was descending in the sky in the water shimmered a brilliant pink.
Agwe, he was not so ruthless after all. For surely it was he who I sent this lovely child to her.
One wishes, and protects ones dreams.
Was it always be a butterfly the girl asked. Always the peasant girl replied the bigger and the more beautiful the better.
Yes, then you must release them so they may be free again to give hope for the future to somebody else.
Then it's not your dream. One person's dream might be another person's nightmare.
Your patience can often turn the most cross person into a person of kindness. So that if, at one time, one might not give you grillot , they will always give you bread.
